About

Thomas Rodehuth, based in LA, was born in 1987 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany. He grew up in Cologne and studied fashion journalism at the Academy for Fashion and Design in Düsseldorf.

While working as a visual merchandiser for COS and American Apparel, the theatre director Patrick Reichert-Young discovered him working on one of the mannequins in the store windows and asked, "Can you do that also on actors?".

After the first theatre production Rodehuth started working as a costume assistant for opera and theatre in Cologne and rediscovered his passion for illustration and painting.

He worked with famous german directors like Karin Beier, Karin Henkel, Tobias Hoheisel or Robert Borgmann.
For Gesine Dankwart he designed the costumes for her interactive theatre play 'Goldveedelsaga'. It was followed by costume designs for 'Fluch der Hoffnung' (Hex of Hope) directed by Anna Horn.
The production was invited to the german theatre convention in Berlin (Berliner Festspiele)

More productions with Horn followed the years after: the workshop based theatre project 'Tor zur Freiheit' (Gate to freedom) with about 60 refugees at the Theatre of Hanover, the Philip Glass opera 'Les enfants terribles' played at the Opera in Cologne 2014 or the productions 'Die Zone' (The Zone) and (The Ten Commandments) at the Theatre Cologne.
Rodehuth also designed the costumes for the production 'Medea' by Euripides at the Theater an der Rott in Bavaria.

He also assisted at the Theater Dortmund in 2014, Thalia Theater and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg in 2015.

In 2016 he moved to Los Angeles and worked in multiple film projects and designed the costumes for the immersive theatrical experience Madcap Motel. He does art direction and styling for multiple photoshoots and established businesses.

In 2021 he founded STUDIO RODEHUTH and works as a muralist and artist - he is inspired by East European Midcentury animation.
